How Hassle-Free payment works

Hassle-Free Payment makes your job simple, secure, and stress-free. Here’s what you get when you choose it:

Secure payment — your money is protected and only released when you’re happy with the work.
You’re in control — set clear milestones and release payments as the work progresses.
Verified specialists only — only specialists who have completed account verification can quote or work on Hassle-Free jobs.
Dispute assistanceoffers a fair, neutral way to resolve disagreements.

How It Works

1. Create a job

  • Choose Hassle-Free Payment when creating a job
  • Job gets a Hassle-Free badge and only verified specialists can apply

2. Choose specialist and set up milestones

After selecting your specialist, set up milestones:

One Milestone: Pay the full amount once work is completed.

Multiple Milestones: Break the job into smaller phases and release payment as each milestone is done.

Each milestone has a title, price, and optional description and due date. Discuss milestones upfront with the specialist to avoid confusion.

Example:
If you’re hiring someone to design a website, you might set up milestones like:
Milestone 1 – Homepage design – $300
Milestone 2 – Inner pages – $400
Milestone 3 – Final tweaks and handover – $200

This makes it easier to follow progress and pay as each phase is completed.

3. Milestone approval

Before work begins, send milestones to your specialist for approval. This ensures you’re both aligned on expectations, scope, and payment. Once the specialist approves, you can fund the first milestone.

Need to make changes later? No problem. You can edit milestones after approval — but any updates will require the specialist’s approval again before moving forward.

4. Fund & release payments

Once a milestone is funded, the payment is securely processed via our third-party payment provider (Stripe) and reserved for release once the job is completed. It won’t be released until you click Release Payment, confirming you’re satisfied with the work.

5. Ending the contract

You can choose to end the contract early at any time, but the specialist must accept the termination.

  • If the specialist accepts, any funded milestone amount will be refunded to you.
  • If the specialist declines, you can try to resolve the issue through the job chat. If that doesn’t help, either party can fill out a Dispute Assistance Form to provide evidence for SkillScoop’s support team to review and investigate.

6. Finalising the job

Once all milestones are completed and paid, mark the job as Completed and leave a review for your specialist. Your feedback supports the community and helps others hire with confidence.

What are milestones?

Milestones let clients break a project into smaller, manageable steps. They can also have just one milestone to pay the full amount upfront.

Each milestone includes:

  • A description of the work to be completed
  • A specified price for that phase
  • An optional due date to track progress

Always discuss milestones with the client in advance. Agreeing on structure, pricing, and timelines helps avoid confusion later.

Reviewing and approving milestones

Once you’re selected for a job, the client will send the milestones for your review. You must approve them before starting work.

This ensures:

  • You and the client are aligned on expectations
  • Deliverables are clearly outlined
  • Payment terms are agreed upon

Need changes? Discuss edits with the client before accepting. Any time the client updates the milestones after initial approval, you’ll need to re-approve them before continuing.

Getting Paid

When a client funds a milestone, the payment is securely held via Stripe

After completing the work for that milestone, notify the client via chat so they can release the payment. You’ll be notified as soon as the payment is released, and funds will be processed to your account.

End of contract

Sometimes a client may want to end a job before all milestones are completed.

  • You’ll receive a contract end request.
  • You can accept or decline the request.
    • If accepted: Any funded milestones are refunded to the client.
    • If declined: Try resolving the issue via chat, or either party can submit a Dispute Assistance Form. Our team will review and help find a fair solution.

After the job is done

Once all milestones are completed and payments are released, the client will mark the job as Completed. At that point, both you and the client will have the opportunity to leave reviews.
